COOKIE POLICY
Last Updated: May 31, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how SettleScan Inc. ("SettleScan", "we", "us", or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies (such as local storage, pixels, and software development kits) when you visit our websites and apps (the "Services"). It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
1. WHAT ARE COOKIES?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, to make them work more efficiently, and to provide reporting information. Similar technologies (like pixels and local storage) perform comparable functions. In this policy we refer to all of these as "cookies".
Cookies set by SettleScan are called "first-party" cookies. Cookies set by other companies (for example, our analytics or advertising partners) are called "third-party" cookies.
2. HOW WE USE COOKIES — CONSENT CATEGORIES
When you first visit SettleScan, we show you a banner so you can choose which categories of cookies you allow. You can change your choices at any time using the "Manage cookie settings" button above or the "Cookie Settings" link in our footer.
We group cookies into the following categories:
• Strictly necessary (always on)
These cookies are required to operate the Services and cannot be switched off. They support things like signing in, keeping you signed in, security, fraud prevention, load balancing, and remembering your basic session so the site works. Because they are essential, they do not require consent and remain active even if you reject non-essential cookies.
• Preferences
These cookies remember choices you make to give you a better, more personal experience — for example your saved filters, location, language, and layout preferences.
• Analytics
These cookies help us understand how visitors use the Services so we can measure and improve them — for example which pages are viewed and which searches are run. If you do not allow analytics cookies, we will not record analytics page views or search analytics events.
• Personalization
These cookies let us tailor listings and content to your activity and interests.
• Advertising
These cookies are used to measure and deliver advertising that is more relevant to you, and may be set by our advertising partners. They may involve the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information as those terms are defined under certain privacy laws.
3. COOKIES WE USE
First-party cookies that are strictly necessary or functional include:
• ss_cookie_consent — stores your cookie consent choices, the consent version, a timestamp, and whether a Global Privacy Control signal was detected. (Strictly necessary.)
• sid — a first-party session identifier used to keep your session continuous and to power features such as recently-viewed listings and anonymous assistant continuity. (Strictly necessary / functional.)
• anon_id — a first-party anonymous identifier used for the same functional purposes when you are not signed in. (Strictly necessary / functional.)
We do not use sid or anon_id for advertising, third-party tracking, cross-site profiling, or the sale or sharing of personal information unless you have granted the relevant consent.
Third-party cookies are only loaded after you grant the relevant category, and only when configured. Depending on your choices and our configuration these may include:
• Analytics: Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, Microsoft Clarity, Hotjar.
• Advertising: Meta (Facebook) Pixel, TikTok Pixel, and advertising/measurement tags.
If a category is not granted, the corresponding scripts and cookies are not loaded.
4. GLOBAL PRIVACY CONTROL (GPC)
Some browsers and extensions can send a Global Privacy Control ("GPC") signal that tells websites you want to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. SettleScan respects GPC: when we detect a GPC signal, advertising and sale/share tracking default to denied unless and until you make a different, explicit choice. We record whether a GPC signal was detected together with your consent record.
5. HOW TO MANAGE YOUR CHOICES
You can review or change your cookie choices at any time:
• Use the "Manage cookie settings" button at the top of this page, or
• Use the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer of any page.
You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies; however, blocking strictly necessary cookies may cause parts of the Services to stop working.
6. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we may also update our consent version, which will prompt you to review your choices again. We will revise the "Last Updated" date above when changes are made.
